The Winter Haven Police Department's Special Investigations Unit is a branch of the department’s Investigative Services Bureau.  It is comprised of four narcotics detectives and one sergeant.  Each member maintains a close working relationship with the general crimes detectives and they rely on another for support and assistance in their investigations.
 
The Special Investigations Unit investigates many complaints of controlled substance violations, prostitution and other related crimes. A variety of tactics are used to combat these problems within the community. Undercover operations and the use of informants are largely responsible for success of the unit. It is essential that an effective partnership is maintained with the State Attorney’s Office, colleagues and more importantly, the community.
