In September 2002 Officer Sanchez II became an officer with
the Winter Haven Police Department. Prior to that,
he worked in detention for the Polk County Sheriff's Office for
2½ years. Officer Sanchez became a K-9 handler in January
2006; he and K-9 Rex were dually certified in patrol and
narcotics in April of that year. Officer Sanchez is a
member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) with Rex also
serving as K-9 for the ERT.
Officer Sanchez has served two tours of duty in Iraq as a U.S.
Marine Reservist. The recipient of numerous medals
including a Bronze Star, he retired from the Reserves in 2006 after 20 years of
service.
