NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

WHPD GUIDELINES
 

bullet Neighborhood Watches will be evaluated each year on January 1st and July 1st to determine their level of participation.
 
bullet Neighborhood Watch signs will be removed if not in accordance with Level Two.
 
bullet Old Neighborhood Watch signs (Crime Watch with binoculars) will be taken down. New Neighborhood Watch signs will be implemented if community decides to activate Level Two Program.
 

Level One

 
bullet Two (2) Neighborhood Watch meetings to get started.
 
bullet Second meeting is scheduled with in a month after the first meeting.
 
bullet At least a 30% neighborhood participation ratio at all meetings and functions.
 
bullet A two hour Neighborhood Crime Watch Program presentation for initial meeting.
 
bullet Operation ID (photos & inventory list only) will need to be completed before second meeting.
 
bullet Tour of the Winter Haven Police Department.
 
bullet Upon establishment of the program, the community organizes a get-together of the neighborhood once a year. There needs to be a 30% community participation in attendance with a sign-in sheet to be forwarded to the Crime Prevention Specialist by January 1st.
 


NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH SIGNS WILL NOT BE INSTALLED

 

Level Two

 
bullet Two (2) Neighborhood Watch meetings to get started.
 
bullet Second meeting is scheduled with in a month after the first meeting.
 
bullet At least a 30% neighborhood participation ratio at all meetings and functions.
 
bullet A two hour Neighborhood Crime Watch Program presentation for initial meeting.
 
bullet A "Key-Person" (or Coordinator) needs to be designated by the end of first meeting.
 
bullet Block Captains need to be in place before second meeting.

     Operation ID (photos & inventory list only) will need to be completed before
     second meeting.
 
bullet Tour of the Winter Haven Police Department
 
bullet Two (2) Neighborhood Watch signs installed.
 
bullet Newspaper photo of Neighborhood Watch community with McGruff.
 
bullet Upon establishment of the program, the community organizes a get-together of the neighborhood at least once every six months.  One of those meetings must be a block party. There needs to be a 30% community participation in attendance with a sign-in sheet to be forwarded to the Crime Prevention Specialist by June 1st and January 1st.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH SIGNS ARE FREE BUT MUST BE EARNED
 


The Winter Haven Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit has a new Neighborhood Watch sign for neighborhoods that would like to replace their old yellow Crime Watch sign for a new Neighborhood Watch sign.  Below is the old sign and the new one:
