Communications is the largest
division within the Support Services Bureau. There are sixteen communications personnel in the police department who are
responsible for handling 911 emergency calls and dispatching
Police Officers to calls for
service. The Communications Center is fully equipped with an
enhanced 911 system, CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system which
prioritizes calls, NCIC (National Crime Information Center)
computer linkup and FCIC (Florida Crime Information Center)
computer linkup. The NCIC and FCIC systems allow for "warrants
and wants" checks to be made on individuals for police officers.
