Clyde Harris - Police Officer of the
Year 2006 |
|
|
Police Officer II Clyde Harris Jr. (better known as Junior) was
selected to represent our department as Police Officer of the
Year 2006. Officer Harris is a hardworking officer with
nothing but the best of intentions for the Winter Haven Police
Department. Harris is always looking for work to do and ways to
complete tasks for the Community Policing Unit. He does
not have to be told to look for solutions for problems in the
community; he will research ideas and then bring these ideas
forward to his supervisors. Officer Harris never complains
about an assignment given to him and will complete these tasks
either on time or earlier.
From approximately July 2005
to January 2006, Officer Harris was the only officer assigned to
the department's Community Policing Unit. In effect,
Harris was the Community Policing Unit for Winter Haven.
He never allowed this to get him down or to affect his work.
During this period, Officer Harris had to take care of many
assignments for CPD as there was no none else to do it.
Again, he never complained and gave full effort to the tasks.
He made more contacts and more arrests by himself than the
officers he replaced in community policing.
Officer Harris is a very
proactive officer. He continually leads the unit in
arrests each month. He is always seeking new training and
education for his job and frequently submits requests for
training. Not only does he want to learn new ideas for law
enforcement but he also plans to continue his college education
in the near future.
In conclusion, Officer Harris' positive attitude, work ethic,
productivity and his thirst to learn are just several reasons
for the selection of Officer Harris for Winter Haven Police
Officer of the Year.

Ann Schramm -
Dispatcher of the Year 2006 |
|
Ann has been with the Winter Haven Police Department since 1999.
She began employment as a Communications Dispatcher but has
served as a Communications Shift Supervisor for the
past five years. She always goes beyond what is expected of
her. She handles callers with great respect, care and control.
She understands the caller could be involved in a life-threatening situation, but continues to stay calm and
also keeps the
caller calm. She asks the right questions and gets the proper
information so that an officer can be sent out to the caller’s
location as quickly as possible. In July of 2006 Ann and her
squad were instrumental in the recovery of a kidnapped child.
Ann took control of the situation, activated the Amber Alert,
had a Polk County Sheriff’s Office helicopter en route, contacted
the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and kept new
information going out to the officers. We commend her for
keeping a cool head during that stressful situation. Ann is highly respected by
both her coworkers and supervisors.
On April 9, 2007, Ann made a career change
and moved into the position of a Community Service Officer, also
a non-sworn position.
We all know that she will continue to give 100% to the department
and to the community.
